Our Home Base Isla Holbox

A tarpon destination like no other.

Year-round juvenile tarpon thrive in Holbox’s mangrove backcountry. You’ll find them in clear turtle‑grass flats, backcountry mangrove ponds, and the canals that connect the lagoon to the ocean. These waters also shelter a variety mangrove species — snapper, snook, barracuda, mojarra, triggerfish, sea trout, and more.

In summer we focus on migratory giants, targeting large tarpon from roughly 50–200 lb in deeper water. If you’re up for a hunt, we frequently encounter permit and bonefish as well. For the full big‑tarpon experience, plan a trip during the summertime.

All of our local guides were born on the island or have lived and guided here for over 30 years. They share a passion for the sport and are committed to providing the best possible experience for our guests, both on and off the water.

Ambergris Caye,

Belize

Whether you’re headed out on a panga with a seasoned guide in pursuit of a trophy permit or wading the flats hunting a new species for your bucket list, Ambergris Caye pulls me back year after year. This place is the kind of destination where a grand slam is possible if you’re willing to put in the work. I’ve fished here through different seasons, and it’s the sheer abundance and variety of the fishery that never fails to excite me.

Wading the flats, you’re shoulder to shoulder with sea turtles, rays, and the occasional shark — a pulse-quickening backdrop to every cast. Then, when a powerful bonefish explodes on your line and you bring it to hand, that rush is the cherry on top of an unforgettable day. Ambergris isn’t just a stop on a trip; it’s a place that keeps calling you back.
